Movie Highlights of the Great War
( 1 items )
As the First World War began movies were changing from short films shown in exhibition halls to longer films of up to four reels, shown in larger cinemas which charged an entry fee, and supported by short films. Film Stars were being created by the movie industry in the United States and the west coast of California with Hollywood at its heart, was becoming the focal centre of movie making. Many of the companies that had produced the smaller films went out of business.
In Europe film production virtually closed down as staff were mobilized for the War, however cinemas continued to show films, mainly from America.
