In my recent article I told you about Harriet Hill's marriage to James Francis Sam of West Wyalong. What I didn't tell you was the saga of her wedding dress. Harriet and James became engaged in 1918, probably after they met at James's brother Henry's wedding to Ethel Kirby in Grantham England - Harriet lived close to Ethel.

Did Martha Gybert marry her World War I Aussie? PDF Print E-mail

ABC News recently ran a news story about a letter recently purchased by the Australian War Memorial from a French woman, Martha Gybert, who lived in Saint Sulpice, France to her mysterious Aussie.  The Australian War Memorial has started to look for this woman in an effort to find out if she did indeed marry her Aussie and come to Australia as a war bride.
